At Arab Medical Center, the requirement was to provide continuous domestic hot water for a healthcare facility operating 24/7, without interrupting service or requiring major modification to the existing steam system.
A 360 kW heat pump system was installed in parallel with the existing system, together with 30,000 liters of thermal storage to support continuous hot-water demand. Dedicated meters and measurement instruments were installed to monitor electricity, water, temperatures, and delivered thermal energy.
Over a 9-month measurement period, the system delivered 472,210 kWh of measured thermal energy while consuming 122,652 kWh of electricity over the same period, resulting in a measured operating COP of 3.85. Comparison with the engineering model showed a deviation of approximately 1.5%
Providing 24/7 domestic hot water in a continuously operating healthcare facility without interrupting service or substantially modifying the existing steam system, while ensuring stable operation and measurable post-implementation performance.
The heat pump system was installed in parallel with the existing steam system rather than replacing it entirely. A 30,000-liter thermal storage system was added to support continuous hot-water demand and stabilize system operation.
The heat pump system had a total installed capacity of 360 kW. Dedicated electricity, water, temperature, and thermal-energy measurement instruments were installed to enable direct comparison between actual operating performance and the engineering model.
