Hyatt Regency Ayla — Approximately 3.0 GWh of Solar Energy Wheeled Annually from Quweira to Aqaba

Hyatt Regency Ayla in Aqaba required a substantial source of clean electricity, while the resort site itself could not accommodate a solar plant of the required scale. A wheeling strategy was therefore adopted, allowing electricity to be generated at a more suitable location and credited to the consuming facility.
The solar plant was developed in Quweira, where land availability and solar resource conditions were better suited to the required capacity. Single-axis tracking was incorporated to improve solar-energy capture and increase plant productivity.
The system has an installed capacity of approximately 1.3 MWp DC and 965 kW AC, with annual generation of approximately 3.0 GWh transferred to the resort in Aqaba through the wheeling arrangement.
Performance is verified by comparing measured annual generation at the plant with the energy transferred and credited to the resort’s account.

Challenges

Supplying Hyatt Regency Ayla in Aqaba with clean electricity at the required scale when the resort site itself could not accommodate a solar PV plant large enough to meet the targeted demand.

Solutions

The solar plant was located in Quweira, where suitable land and strong solar resources were available, with its generated energy transferred to the resort in Aqaba through a wheeling arrangement.
The plant was designed at approximately 1.3 MWp DC / 965 kW AC and equipped with single-axis tracking to improve solar capture and achieve annual generation of approximately 3.0 GWh.
